A visit to Legend’s bike factory in Bergamo, Italy

Steve James, owner at Velosport, has recently returned from a short trip to meet with the owner of Legend Bikes in Italy. He reports on his trip:

I was fortunate enough to be invited to Legend Bikes in Italy to see the new factory earlier this month. A great opportunity to meet up again with the founder of Legend, Marco Bertoletti, a true velo artist and whilst neither his English nor my Italian have improved since we last met, fortunately, his daughter who works with Marco, speaks English.

Marco set up Legend bikes in 1989 and felt that this year was the time to move to some modern premises, which would also have a showroom to display his impressive products.

All Legend frames regardless of the materials used are both custom paint finished to suit the customer’s needs with a custom geometry for each. There are some images below of the bikes on display at the Legend factory, the Sistine Chapel of biking art!

One of the most notable changes at the factory was the introduction of a new Titanium welding machine at a cost of 100,000 euros – it is hugely important to weld Titanium in an oxygen free environment. The new investment will improve the already seamless quality of the welding.

Marco also had examples of his Titanium disc brake bikes,  from Le Prince to the amazing Ventiquessimo on display and due to demand Marco has recently introduced a carbon disc frame to the range at two price points.

As with all Legend products, they certainly look better in the flesh, only then is one able to fully appreciate the wonderful design and workmanship.

For those riders keen to visit the Factory, a fantastic experience, Marco will also include a sortie on the roads in and around Bergamo.
